This program is for you to help you keep your grief moving so you can navigate the wild ride of loss. 

Guided by empathy and expertise, this transformative program is crafted for individuals grieving any kind of loss whether it’s a death loss or any sudden life transition. What sets our program apart is its unique integration of the four directions from many world traditions, providing a profound understanding for navigating the path of grief.

As we journey through each direction, you’ll uncover the qualities and wisdom they offer, applying them to your grief journey through specific teachings, guided visualizations, grief maps, and expressive tools such as art and writing prompts.

These tools will become lifelong companions, equipping you to navigate the inevitable ups and downs of life with greater resilience and insight. 

With this comprehensive and holistic approach, you will discover practical strategies and compassionate support, enabling you to experience moments of ease, peace, and joy while reconnecting with a meaningful and fulfilling life amidst the challenges of loss.

This program is available as a solo journey or as a group. If you take the solo journey route-you may start at any time of year. 

Our next group program begins Wednesday, March 19, 2025. We will meet every other week for 14 weeks. Program ends on June 18, 2025.

Week One
: Foundations of Grief- Identifying Your Personal Journey 

Description: Establish a supportive group environment through introductions and explore foundational concepts of grief. Delve into Francis Weller’s “5 Gates of Grief” to understand the nuanced layers of loss. Debunk common myths of grief so you can begin to identify and articulate your unique grief experience. You’ll also create a sacred space for personal reflection with an altar that grows throughout the program.

Week Two: Embodiment of Grief-Finding Ground Through Body Awareness

Description: Learn to recognize and support how grief manifests physically by practicing a body scan. Understand breathing techniques as grief often resides in the lungs, and learn to locate grief within your joints through guided movement. These practices serve as foundational tools so you can cultivate body awareness and self-care during your grief journey.

Week Three: Mapping Loss and Emotional Excavation

Description: Examine the broader implications of grief through the concept of “Ripples of Loss.” Start creating a detailed map of your losses and emotional states, fostering a safe space for expression and sharing within the group so you can better understand the complex tapestry of your grief experience.

Week Four: The Wheel of Grief-West and East Pathways

Description: Introduce the wisdom of the medicine wheel by exploring the horizontal directions of the West and the East. Reflect on how grief pulls you to the earth and invites introspection and rebirth. By connecting with these directions you can begin to embrace the grounding aspect of your journey and start to shift your perspective towards renewal.

Week Five: Deepening with the South and North-Embodiment and Ancestral Connection

Description: Dive into the vertical directions of the medicine wheel of the South and the North. Celebrate the wisdom and liveliness of the South, while honoring the guidance of the North and the connection with ancestors. Explore these themes so you can recognize your place within a larger continuum of life and legacy.

Week Six: Crafting Wholeness-The Unity of the Four Directions

Description: Weave together the knowledge gained from all four directions by using a special creative prompt which will represent the integration of the physical, emotional, spiritual, and ancestral elements so you can embody a balanced and holistic perspective on your grief journey. This creative process acts as a tactile manifestation of your personal growth and healing.

Week Seven: Integrating the Journey-Finding Balance and Flow  

Description: Focus on integrating all the components you have learned throughout the program—body support, emotional expression, cultural wisdom, and ancestral connection. We will reflect on how the directions support one another and their personal experiences so you can cultivate a balanced state of being. Together we’ll expand on your personal altars, adding elements from each direction.
Exercise: Engage in a creative activity such as painting or journaling to express your personal integration of the Wheel of Grief and share this with the group. Together we will co-create a symbolic letting go ritual to do on our own and then will share this in the final group.

Week Eight: Emergence and New Beginnings-Keep Grief Moving with the Wheel of Grief 

Description: In this final session we’ll celebrate your resilience and growth with a closing ceremony. We’ll  revisit your altars and personal elements added throughout the program to acknowledge your individual journeys. We’ll Include elements of ritual, such as sharing stories of personal transformation and planting seeds to symbolize new beginnings so you can continue moving forward with hope as you journey beyond the program. We’ll do a final ritual to honor the four directions and each of your individual journeys. We will process the letting go ritual that you will have done since the prior week. 

Exercise: A communal sharing circle where participants can express gratitude and set intentions for the future, followed by a symbolic release of grief. Together we will create a final ritual to honor our journeys.
